Not only was Steve Rogers aka Captain America one of the MCU’s most popular heroes, his movies are often considered some of the best in the entire Marvel franchise. Of course, when it comes to the MCU, there are always a lot of opinions and some aspects of the Captain America trilogy are seen differently.
While these opinions may represent a smaller portion of the audience, they are nonetheless interesting looks at the films. From the changes fans would have liked to see to brutally honest takes on the quality of the movies, even Captain America and his trilogy are facing unpopular opinions on Reddit.
ten Civil War should have been an Avengers movie
the Civil war The storyline in the Marvel comics was a massive event that pitted teams of heroes against each other with Captain America and Iron Man leading the two opposing sides of the conflict. The MCU adaptation made the story smaller by Captain America: Civil War.
Despite the change, many fans seemed to think it worked with plenty of Marvel heroes and Captain America as the focal point. However, Redditor cityofangels7x wanted to see the script done as an actual Avengers movie to give it the proper scale. They added that the third Captain America movie “should have been when Steve was on the run as Nomad.”
9 Steve’s post-war life was a missed opportunity
Given that Captain America fought aliens and robots while saving the universe, it’s easy to forget that he began his hero’s journey in World War II. While the war hero aspect is a big part of the MCU, some felt there were some interesting areas left unexplored.
Redditor Incognegro1997 expressed a desire to see Steve Rogers come to terms with life after the war ended and the struggles real-life soldiers faced. In particular, they thought he wondering “what am I supposed to do when the fights are over” would have been a great concept to tackle.
8 Crossbones were underutilized
Captain America has fought many villains in the MCU, some more memorable than others. While his run-ins with the biggest villains from the Avengers movies are getting the most attention, other villains have been tragically overlooked according to some fans.
Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, is a well-known enemy of Captain America in the comics, but he wasn’t featured much in the movies. While many fans found him to be an adequate secondary villain, Redditor TeacupsInTime complained that the character was “cast aside”.
7 Captain America: Civil War was the best use of Black Panther
T’Challa aka Black Panther made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War before headlining his own massively successful solo film. but while Black Panther made the character an icon, some were more impressed with his first appearance.
Although T’Challa had a supporting role in Captain America: Civil War, he was made to be an interesting character, and Chadwick Boseman’s performance was very effective. But Redditor TheRedMarioBrother felt he was being “sidelined in his own movie” by the supporting cast.
6 Bucky is more interesting than Steve
The relationship between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes was central to the Captain America trilogy. Bucky was a great friend, a heartbreaking foe, and a factor that complicated Steve’s journey as a hero.
Bucky did well as a character who mostly operated in Captain America’s shadow, but some fans felt he should have been in the spotlight more. Redditor WassupSassySquatch admitted they were “more invested and curious about Bucky” than Captain America himself.
5 Captain America: Civil War Overloaded
While Captain America: Civil War dramatically scaled back the comic book story, it still managed to have a massive cast of heroes that would rival an Avengers story. With scene-stealing additions like Ant-Man and all-new heroes like Black Panther and Spider-Man, it’s been a jam-packed adventure.
Many fans were thrilled to see all of these heroes together, some for the first time. But others were angry that it took away from who should have been the star of the show. Redditor TheScarletKnight2014 didn’t like that “Cap didn’t get his own solo movie without the Avengers”.
4 Captain America: The Winter Soldier is boring
While Captain America: The First Avenger introduced the character to the MCU, many found Captain America: The Winter Soldier changed the game for him and the entire MCU. The single-player adventure that finds Cap surrounded by enemies and uncovering a hidden threat has been called the best MCU movie by many fans.
Unfortunately, Redditor Sunrisemelon was not one of those impressed fans afterwards. They found the film boring and admitted that they “can’t understand how this one is considered the best”.
3 Captain America: The First Avenger is the best MCU movie
Cap’s first solo movie was decently received upon release as people tried to decide if this was a character they could take seriously in a live-action movie. As the character’s popularity grew, so did Captain America: The First Avengeralthough it is still widely considered the least popular of the trilogy.
But some fans think the movie is very underrated and deserves more love. Redditor Muhahahahahahaha went so far as to state that Captain America: The First Avenger “should be considered the best Marvel movie.”
2 Cap was wrong in the Civil War
Steve Rogers is the kind of character who is so noble and so righteous that it should be boring. But while some other heroes can pull off the more ambiguous identities, there’s comfort in the fact that Cap is always right, even when he goes up against Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War.
While neither man is meant to be the villain, the general consensus is that Tony pushed his position too far and got it wrong. But Flint_DeVolcania disagreed and blamed Captain America, saying he “was arrogant and immature.”
1 This is the worst MCU trilogy
While the Thor and Iron Man trilogies have entries that are considered some of the best in the MCU, there are also some that aren’t fan favorites. On the other hand, the Captain America trilogy includes three films that have been widely celebrated as some of the best in the MCU.
But there are those who think quite the opposite of this collection of films. Redditor DoctorSmith01 called it the worst of the MCU trilogies and claimed that “too many fans are treating these movies like they’re deep metaphors.”
