Some Marvel fans wondered what the latest news would be on Sam Wilson’s stint as Captain America. As Wilson (Anthony Mackie) took over at the end of the Marvel Studios Disney+ program The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, no concrete plans had been revealed regarding when we would next see the new Cape. A fourth Captain America movie has been discussed, but now it seems to be kicking into high gear because Julius Onah has landed the helmsman job Captain America 4 for Marvel.
Julius Onah is a newcomer to the Marvel Universe, but he’s previously directed The Cloverfield Paradox, and therefore has experience in narrating larger posts. The news of his hiring was reported in The Hollywood Reporterwho adds that Malcolm Spellman, who wrote for the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldierwill co-write the Captain America 4 screenplay with Dalan Musson, another screenwriter of the series.
It is noted in the report that it is unclear whether or not Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers in the film, although recently during the press tour for Light year, Evans made it clear that it would take something really special to bring him back to the role, as he’s incredibly happy with how the role turned out. Why would he jeopardize it by returning for a fourth Captain America movie?
Plus, any Chris Evans return would completely overshadow what this film is supposed to focus on, and it’s Anthony Mackie who gets the opportunity to take to the wings and protect himself for a ride. The reveal of Sam Wilson in his updated Captain America costume at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was such an awesome moment, but Marvel movies hit differently than weekly TV shows, and as cool as those action sequences are, I really want to see it get its due in a feature film.
Now let’s go to all the questions we ask ourselves about Captain America 4. THR’s history indicates that no production start date has been announced, although we have followed up on all upcoming marvel moviesand we know there’s a number of them heading our way, and Captain America 4 was not at the top of the list so far. We kind of thought we’d hear details about the upcoming Blade movie beyond the information we have already heardor maybe a confirmation regarding The Fantastic Four cast, and maybe a director. There is also round trip to Wakanda scheduled for later this year.
Before all of that, though, Thor demands our attention. Thor: Love and Thunder is already a good start at the worldwide box office, and we expect to follow its success throughout the weekend… even if the reviews are a little controversial. Either way, things are very busy at Marvel Studios and will be for a long time.
