Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette will be the club’s new captain until the end of the season. The Frenchman has worn the armband numerous times in recent weeks after former strike partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped as captain in December following a disciplinary foul.
Arteta took his time deciding who will wear the armband, but has now confirmed that Lacazette is the man for the job.
A bit problematic, the 30-year-old is set to leave Emirates Stadium this summer when his current contract expires.
This means Arsenal boss Arteta will have to reconsider his role again ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Lacazette is set to return to his former side Lyon this summer with the French club keen to re-sign their former leader.

Elsewhere, Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Magalhaes, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White have all started to ramp up and all four will be contenders for captaincy this summer.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Wolves, Arteta took the time to respond to former striker Aubameyang, who shot his former manager during his Barcelona unveiling.
“My last few months at Arsenal have been complicated, sometimes it’s football,” said the striker.
“For my part, I never wanted to do anything wrong. My problem was only with Arteta. I can’t say much more, I wasn’t happy.”
Arteta has now taken the time to thank Aubameyang for his service to the club – despite making it clear the player was responsible for his own disappearance in north London.
“I am extremely grateful for what Auba has done and for his contribution,” he said.
“How I see myself in this relationship is the solution, not the problem.”
Before adding: “It’s his opinion [that Arteta was the main problem]that’s what he said and you have to respect that.
