Pakistan captain Babar Azam has won the coin toss and opted to play first against arch-rivals India in the second match of the 2022 Asian Cup Super Four leg underway here at the International Cricket Stadium of Dubai on Sunday.
India got the better of Pakistan in the group stage last Sunday as Hardik Pandya’s one-man show took Men in Blue across the finish line in a thrilling finale.
Hasan Ali replaced the injured Shahnawaz Dahani for Pakistan. For India Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi are in Playing eleven.
Both teams are playing the match without their star player, India will be playing without senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, while Pakistan are missing the services of Shahnawaz Dahani. Both players suffered injuries which ruled them out of the Asian Cup.
Despite the two teams having squared off a week prior, fans are not lacking in excitement to watch the two teams go head-to-head in what has become a rare encounter lately.
So far, the arch-rivals have played 15 matches against each other in the Asian Cup. India won 9, while Pakistan won 5 while one game ended in a no-result.
Speaking at the time of the draw, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam said: “We will play first. The dew could be a factor, that’s why we play first. We had a lot of positives in the last game against India. The message is to play positive – a change for us with the arrival of Hasan Ali.” Speaking at the time of the draw, India captain Rohit Sharma said: “We would have played first but now we have to play free and assess a good score on this court.
