Even though bus captains have a “corner office” and sometimes drive a Mercedes, there is one thing missing from their workplace an adjoining toilet.

A video posted on ICT Tac July 17 shows how a bus captain coped with his need to answer the call of nature while on the job.

The bus captain sprinted towards the bus

Panning over the cabin of the bus, the video showed a stationary bus full of people.

Most of the commuters seemed to be minding their own business, waiting for the bus captain to return.

The video then cuts to a view outside the bus, where the bus captain can be seen exiting a building and sprinting towards the bus.

The caption of the video read: “Uncle from the bus left us here to go to the bathroom”.

Lots of empathy

In the comments, the creator of the video wrote:

Y’all, I’m not complaining about the driver taking a bathroom break, I’m just saying it was very sudden and I’ve never seen it before ✋

A user in the comments section realized they were also on the same bus and identified the bus service as 502.

The bus was in Suntec City when nature called and the bus captain answered, according to the user.

Suntec City was a common stop for bus captains to take a quick break, according to a commentator.

Most were sympathetic to the plight of the bus captain, guessing he must be “super urgent”.

One comment that garnered 20 replies, however, was more focused on commuters, asking why some were still holding on to handlebars and posts when the bus was not moving:

Happens more often than you think

Apparently, this happens more often than you might think, as some reviewers have shared.

They wrote that this happens most often on bus services that pass through Changi Airport.

According Ground Transportation Guruthe longest bus service in Singapore is the 858 bus.

It travels a total distance of 73.4 km from Woodlands to Changi Airport, passing through Sembawang, Yishun, Punggol and Sengkang.

bus service 502 has a total distance of 59.5 km, starting from Soon Lee Road in Jurong West and making a round trip through Orchard Road and the Central Business District.

So if your bus captain stops the bus and runs off to the bathroom, just remember that it’s been a long trip for him and there’s probably more to come.
