Captain America’s breaking point was recently revealed, as the hero cursed one of his fellow Avengers in a moment of frustration.
Warning! Spoilers for Eternals #12 by Marvel Comics
Despite his sane attitude and heroic methods, even Captain America has a breaking point, which was displayed when he told the Eternals to get lost after defeating Thanos. In Eternals #12 by Marvel Comics, Sersi mentions that the Avengers told them to go home after revealing that they couldn’t tell them the truth, with Captain America seemingly cursing the former heroes using “much less polite” language that has even surprised the Eternals.
Captain America rarely uses flowery language in the comics and the MCU, as the hero instead chooses to keep things clean based on his 1940s mindset. However, Captain America, who said the “language” of ‘Iron Man after Iron Man cursed Avengers: Age of Ultron, has just reached its breaking point in the pages of Marvel Comics. The hero just denounced the Eternals in frustration after they invaded the Avengers’ Sky Base, told them Thanos was running free without their knowledge, and revealed that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes couldn’t be trusted.
In Eternals #12 by Kieron Gillen, Esad Ribic, Matthew Wilson, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, the comic ends with Sersi telling Captain America and the Avengers the truth about what’s going on with the Eternals, including allowing Thanos to rule as as Eternal-Prime. In a controversial moment, Sersi, who was an Avenger herself, tells the heroes that the planet is theirs and they shouldn’t question the means of keeping Earth alive. However, when Sersi tells the team that she has some sympathy for the situation and that the Avengers should not trust the Eternals, she is asked to leave Hero HQ, admitting that Captain America used language that she was surprised that the hero even knew.
Sersi admits to being surprised that Captain America told them to go home “in much less polite terms”. Naturally, Steve Rogers, who usually keeps things PG, was frustrated by the revelation that the Eternals were facing Thanos and allowed him to become Prime-Eternal without even telling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Captain America rarely curses or uses foul language, but in this case, it seemed justified.
It takes a lot to break Captain America’s wholesome personality as he goes out of his way to keep things clean. But, after Sersi spoke to the Avengers after Thanos’ reveal returned and the Avengers had no idea, Steve Rogers naturally let the Eternals know he wasn’t happy. In the end, Cap reached his breaking point and seemingly cursed the Eternals with his less than polite language – which happens off-panel, but still surprising. Seeing Captain America crazy enough to go wild is a rarity; however, given the circumstances, he might have let the Eternals go lightly, considering everything they were hiding from him.
