In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, Steve Rogers encounters a new shadow organization like no other.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #2
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics Captain America: Sentinel of Freedom, Steve Rogers has discovered a massive new threat that threatens his legacy and everything he stands for. Having discovered the existence of a new Shadow Organization, the only real thing Rogers currently knows is that they have more power and influence than any group he has fought before. Additionally, his iconic shield is central to this new story along with the dark notion that he can symbolize so much more than Marvel’s First Avenger even knows.
As we have seen in previous issues of Sentinel of Liberty from Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Carmen Carnero, Nolan Woodard and VC’s Joe Caramagna, Captain America relies on friends young and old to help him uncover the secrets behind his shield. After confronting the super-soldier known as The Destroyer on July 4, who was long thought dead, The Destroyer shared something truly shocking with Rogers: “The shield is not what you think. It’s not your symbol, it’s theirs.Seeing how Steve recently discovered that his shield was being used as a game board by a ghost organization to move secret pawns all over the world, Captain America believed the Destroyer’s words (fearing the consequences of what he might learn) .
Nevertheless, Captain America begins his investigation in earnest in the new Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #2. Even with Bucky going MIA after the 4th of July battle, Steve is still determined to uncover the truth behind his shield and those who made it. As such, he not only learns about the man who designed his shield (one David Agboje), but also about the Shadow Organization’s next target: a high-tech, experimental power plant in Germany known as the name of The Forge. Facing the group’s henchmen, Cap is surprised to discover that these pawns are all made up of HYDRA, AIM, Hand, and even SHIELD agents. If that wasn’t enough to show that Steve’s new threat is enormous and immensely powerful, it’s absolutely confirmed when a massive ship resembling Captain America’s shield arrives, proving that Rogers’ primary symbol has been co-opted (or not). was never really his). start with).
Aboard the ship, five members call themselves The Machine, Money, Power, Love, and Revolution. Following a vote to “redact” Captain America, a deadly-looking robot (or an agent wearing battle armor) is deployed to take out Captain America when the issue ends. These rulers likely control the aspects of society they are named after, further proving their vast influence and what has likely been a secret guide through history, working in the shadows of any groups Captain America antagonizes. was beaten (and even alongside) over the years.
Not all the pieces of this new conspiracy are fully in place yet despite new discoveries in this new issue. There’s a lot Captain America still doesn’t know and even more Bucky Barnes is hiding from him with the revelation that the Winter Soldier conducted his own investigation outside of Steve. Either way, it will be really exciting to learn the true heritage and secrets of Captain America shield with the idea that he might need some redemption in future issues.
