It’s been almost a month since we’ve played a competitive game – it’s fair to say we’re hungry for Thursday’s clash with the Kings. We were really preparing for the game last weekend to see where we were at, and we had built our schedule around a peak for this game, so having that canceled at the last minute was obviously disappointing. Luckily we got to practice more before our game against Sydney this week in Wollongong, but I know the guys are so excited to come back on the pitch and play a game. It’s like forever since we haven’t been there. Read more: The Blue Stars Prepare to Impress at the Illawarra Track Challenge. To be honest, we weren’t really playing our best basketball until we were forced into this break. The first few days were a bit rusty, but after that the guys got really stuck and the ball is really moving on the offensive end. I can’t wait to get out there and show off what we did during our forced break. But everyone is talking about fitness to play and I felt like we had gotten to a point where we had built up some resistance and everyone was in good shape in the sense of the game and then we had our forced break. We try to replicate the intensity of the game, but there is nothing that replaces that fatigue that you feel during a match. But the boys are excited and I have no doubt that we will be bouncing off the walls Thursday night. There was a lot of talking and talking before our last game with the Kings, but we went there and won. We knew they were a bit understaffed, but we didn’t play our best basketball either, so we’re looking forward to a better game here. I don’t think rivalry plays so much on the minds of guys as just wanting to go back to the basketball court and play a game – that’s a big goal for us. Heading into the season, we talked about playing seven of our first nine home games. I know those days would be over by now, but here we are, playing our second home game. The constantly changing schedule is difficult to follow and frustrating for the fans, just like for us. But being able to come back home is exciting and we need the support of our fans. We know the situation is a bit risky, when it comes to COVID, right now, but we appreciate everyone participating in the games. We know there is a series of games here and we have to win them to be able to compete for a place in the final. So hopefully we can attract a huge crowd for these next games.
