A 66-year-old man, Captain Cook, died in a three-vehicle collision Saturday near the intersection of Kaohe and Ili Ili roads in South Kona.
A 66-year-old man, Captain Cook, died in a three-vehicle collision Saturday near the intersection of Kaohe and Ili Ili roads in South Kona.
The victim has been positively identified as William Jennings Dixon.
Officers responding to an 11:28 a.m. call determined Dixon was driving a blue 2006 Honda Pilot sport utility vehicle bound for makai and exited the right shoulder, hitting a parked gray 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck and a Subaru Impreza 2019 blue four-door sedan.
After hitting the two vehicles, the SUV rolled over an embankment and crashed into a driveway.
Dixon was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:35 p.m.
Police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
