THE CENTER – The California Highway Patrol – El Centro Area hosted a retirement luncheon for its commanding officer, Capt. Scott Laverty, on Wednesday, April 13, according to a news release.
“Having been a commander here in the Imperial Valley for nearly 5 years, it’s bittersweet. Especially after working to fill vacancies, equipment, and a new facility that will better serve the people of California and the communities here. in the Imperial Valley,” he said.
The California Highway Patrol – El Centro Area officially opened its new facility on March 29, located near the Imperial County facility off 4th Street in south El Centro. Speaking at the groundbreaking event, Captain Laverty said: “As we move earth here this morning, I remember everyone who came before us and worked at our current facility. Now, this dirt that we move will create a new story for those of you who are here now and those who will come after us in service to the public. This new facility will provide more opportunities to better serve our communities. I am proud of each of you, not only for your past and current service to the people of California, but also for serving others in the future. The new facility is expected to be completed in March 2023.
As Captain Laverty bid farewell at his retirement event. He said, “It has been a real pleasure to work with California and Imperial County communities, allied agencies, road safety stakeholders, and with each of you. Thank you for all the support and all you do.
Captain Laverty began his law enforcement career in 1992 with the Riverside County Sheriffs Reserve program and the United States Army Military Police, and with the Kansas City Police Department before joining California Highway Patrol in 2001. During his service with the Highway Patrol, he worked as a Patrol Officer, Training Officer, Instructor, Commercial and Field Supervisor, Protective Services Detail, Fire Investigation Team, narcotics task forces and commander of several areas.
