CILLIAN O’SULLIVAN has been confirmed as Meath’s new football captain for their upcoming Championship campaign.
he Moynalvey clubman took over the armband from Shane McEntee, who flew to Mali in March on a six-month peacekeeping mission with the Irish Defense Forces. Meath opens his Leinster SFC campaign against Laois or Wicklow on May 1.
O’Sullivan initially took on the role after McEntee left but, in his absence through injury, full-back Conor McGill captained for Meath’s last league outing against Derry last Sunday last week.
Jet-heeled O’Sullivan is no stranger to manager Andy McEntee, who managed the player as a minor in 2012 when the Royals lost the All-Ireland MFC final to Dublin.

McEntee’s last outing as skipper came against Offaly in late February; he then played for his club, St Peter’s of Dunboyne, a week later. “Last Saturday marked my last outing on the football pitch for now,” he announced at the time.
“It has been an incredible honor to captain my county for the past 12 months and while it won’t be easy to watch from afar, I am extremely excited to be on my first assignment at the overseas with the Irish Defense Force.
“These two passions in my life have complemented each other brilliantly, with many of the lessons learned in one area being equally applicable to the other. I look forward to building on these experiences and gaining many more over the years. next six months.

Meath GAA announced that Kenny will step down as Director of Operations to take on a new role at Central Council level, adding: “We are grateful for Seamus’ service and will continue to work closely with him in his new work. ”
