England captain Jos Buttler said they needed to take out Australian Tim David to win the game in Canberra. Dawid Malan scored a brilliant half-century to help England beat Australia by 8 points and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game T20I series.

By India Today Web Desk: England captain Jos Buttler said Australian Tim David had to be taken out to win the game in Canberra. Dawid Malan scored a brilliant half-century to help England beat Australia by 8 points and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game T20I series.

Speaking after the match, Buttler said Malan was very consistent in his performance against all the attacks in the world.

“It’s really satisfying. Dawid has been very consistent and has done it against every attack in the world,” Buttler said.

The England captain went on to say that getting Tim David’s wicket was crucial for England to win the game.

“Sam Curran wants to be in the heart of the action when it matters. We had to get Tim David out to win the game,” Buttler added.

Malan was voted player of the game for his 82-point shot on just 49 balls. Speaking after receiving his award, the hitter said he had found his groove and could hopefully continue to sink the runs.

“I’m over the moon, nice to score points and contribute to a win. The knowledge of the terrain helps, I didn’t have a great Big Bash, but I found my rhythm. Hopefully I can keep shopping coming hussey [who presented 50th cap]one of my idols growing up, it’s great that he says a few words,” Malan said.

Moeen Ali also spoke after the game about Malan’s brilliant innings and said the team would gain a lot of confidence from the win.

“We talked about staying in the moment, Dawid played superbly, it was a crucial partnership. We are gaining a lot of confidence, it’s huge for our team with a lot of young players. We are moving in the right direction, the Pakistan was big for us, winning two here, and Jos coming back and fit,” Ali said.

England will now face Australia in the third and final T20I of the series on October 14.
