He made his IPL debut last year at the UAE leg and immediately left an impression by confusing established hitters with his pace and rebound. However, the 22-year-old lacks experience after playing just three first-class games and one List A game for his national team Jammu and Kashmir and that is reflected in his performances as he continues on the run .
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has made a grand prediction that the youngster will soon be playing international cricket and advised sending him to play county cricket this summer to help develop his game.
“Umran Malik will be playing for India very soon… If I was BCCI I would send him to play county cricket this summer to help him develop first,” Vaughan tweeted on Monday.

On Monday against the Gujarat Lions, Malik’s fastest delivery was recorded at 153 mph, which is also the fastest of any bowler this IPL so far. After being introduced by Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson in the seventh tier, the right-arm pacer showed aggression from the first delivery itself as he started with a bouncer that hit the captain of the GT Hardik Pandya on the helmet.
A shaken Pandya responded in kind by sending four consecutive legs at the point guard.
Malik finished the over on a high by trapping GT opener Matthew Wade lbw.
