An FDNY captain on a promotion list to chief has been arrested for receiving shipments of steroids and ecstasy mailed to his upstate home, The Post has learned.
Muhammad S. Iftikhar, 43, assigned to Engine Co. 282 in Borough Park, Brooklyn, was arrested Feb. 8 following the execution of a search warrant at his home in Goshen by investigators from the Troops of State, Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, officials said. .
Investigators seized over 50 grams of anabolic steroids and over 20 grams of ecstasy, or MDMA, on state police said.
“It was a six-month investigation,” Trooper spokesman Beau Duffy said. He did not give details of the range of the probe or what triggered it.
The FDNY hit Iftikhar with a maximum suspension of 28 days without pay. He will be banned from field duty when the suspension ends, spokesman Jim Long said.
The 16-year FDNY veteran was promoted to lieutenant in July 2013then captain in 2018, according to public records. Iftikhar’s total salary last year was $218,000, according to seethroughny.net.
Iftikhar was in line to rise higher in the FDNY.
He passed a civil service test to be promoted to Battalion Commander and ranked No. 120 out of 194 eligible applicants.
The captain was slapped for felony possession of a controlled substance and a hallucinogenic substance with intent to sell, authorities said. He was arraigned in Goshen Court and released on his own recognizance.
Maria Younis, 39, was also arrested at the residence, state police said. She was ticketed for 7th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Homeland Security and U.S. Postal investigators declined to comment.
