Former UNH hockey captain Josh Ciocco, who played the sport for years before becoming a coach, was confirmed dead on Tuesday, October 4, his cause of death

Merrimack College has declared assistant hockey coach Josh Ciocco, who died suddenly at the age of 38. Fellow hockey players and fans took to Twitter to pay their respects and share touching tributes to Josh Ciocco.

Merrimack College said professional hockey coach Josh Ciocco has died at Merrimack College Athletics said in a statement Tuesday 4.20.22. The statement read: “The community of Merrimack and the men’s hockey program are deeply saddened by the passing of Assistant Coach Josh Ciocco. The cause or time of death had yet to be announced at the time of writing.

Josh Ciocco’s family

Josh Ciocco was born in 1983 on the 15the November and followed Christianity. Josh was married and his wife’s name is not known.

Josh Ciocco Education and Professional Career

Ciocco has served as an assistant coach at Merrimack College for the past four seasons. Previously, he also served as an assistant coach for Alaska-Anchorage. He also played for the Spruce Kings from 2000 to 2002 before taking up his coaching job. Ciocco then played for the Silverbacks in the 2002-2003 season before going to the University of New Hampshire to study political science.

He spent approximately four seasons with the university’s varsity team from 2003 to 2007, as part of Wheeling and Fresno during the 2006 to 2007 and 2007 to 2008 seasons. He was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 84 kg.

The death of Josh Ciocco

The hockey community mourns the passing of Josh Ciocco and several people who knew the hockey player and coach have left touching tributes on social media.

Matt Quinn said: “I am extremely saddened to learn of the passing of my former teammate Josh Ciocco this morning at the age of 38, gone too soon. I want to send my condolences to Josh’s family and friends. He we will miss it.”

Mike McMahon wrote in another tribute: “My thoughts are with Josh’s family, as well as his hockey family within the Merrimack and UNH programs where he was an alumnus.”
