DANVILLE — Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. today for a man who served Yell County for more than two decades and passed away last Sunday.
John Martin Foster Jr. “Junior,” 53, of Havana, died Oct. 2 at Arkansas Hospice Home in Russellville. Foster worked in the Yell County Sheriff’s Department for more than 25 years and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
“We are saddened this morning to learn of the passing of our dear friend Captain John Foster,” a post on the Yell County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page said. “Captain Foster has served the citizens of Yell County with integrity, dedication and leadership for over 25 years.
“Captain Foster worked tirelessly to ensure that the people of Yell County were served by well-trained deputies and jailers. His vast knowledge of the law was unmatched. His character was unquestionable. He was a moral and just lawman who held his officers to the highest level of responsibility with which he lived his life.
“The hole that remains in our hearts and in the walls of this office will be felt for years to come. Captain Foster’s legacy will live on through the generations of officers he trained and worked alongside him.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the Foster family and the countless lives he touched with his kind heart.”
The funeral service will be held at Christ Church of Western Yell County with Pastor Logan Ferguson and Bro. Tom Sullinger officiating. The visitation was Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Moores Chapel Cemetery.
“Captain. John Foster ‘Jr’ was a great friend and mentor to many of us including myself,” Danville Police Chief Rick Padgett posted on Facebook. “I will miss my friend and our many chats inside his office. He was one of the best to ever wear the badge, but he was an even better person. Please keep his family and all his brothers and sisters in blue your prayers.
