Captain William Hargraves
The funeral of Captain William Hargraves of the Osage County Sheriff’s Office will be held Friday, August 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ponca Town Schools Concert Hall. Attendance at these funerals is expected to be very high.
Friday around 9:00 a.m., all accesses to the War Memorial Park parking lot will be closed. Overbrook from 5th Street to 7th Street will be closed at the same time. The outside lane (curb side) of 5th Street NB will also be closed between Highland and Overbrook during this time. There will be one NB lane left open.
As participants arrive, it will likely become necessary to park some vehicles in the grass, which will interfere with the use of the disc golf course. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. War Memorial Park, Overbrook and 5th Street will reopen as soon as the funeral is over and the motorcade has departed.
The City of Ponca Police Department is asking anyone attending the funeral, who is not in an emergency vehicle and not with the family, to come to the southernmost entrance of the park, on 7th street, near the wading pool. Officers and volunteers will direct parking at this location. There will be a specific disabled area, so please let the officers know if you have a disabled parking requirement.
Anyone showing up in an emergency vehicle, who has not been given a specific place to park, should go to the northernmost entrance to the park, on 5th Street, and they will be given directions to where to park.
Anyone wishing to be part of the procession to Kaw City for the funeral service will need to plan to exit from the west side of War Memorial Park on 5th Street. Anyone who will not be attending the funeral service must remain parked until the procession has departed and cleared the park.
