Group Captain Amarinder Singh Gill, winner of the Yudh Seva Medal, died on Friday after a long illness. He was 59 years old.

The officer is survived by his wife, Parvinder Gill, and daughter Hazel Kaur, 18. He had not been well for a long time and had also undergone a liver transplant in July last year.

“After his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Panchkula Command Hospital. He was in a coma for more than a month. Slowly his organs began to fail and on Friday he suffered from ‘heart failure,'” Parvinder said. Gill was cremated on Saturday in his hometown of Mohali at the Phase 7 Industrial Estate cremation ground with full military honors. Several senior IAF officers paid their respects to the deceased officer.
