India national cricket team captain Hardik Pandya has become the first Indian captain to pick a wicket in T20 International (T20I) cricket.
Hardik Pandya achieved this milestone in the first match of the two-match T20I series against the Ireland national cricket team managed by Andrew Balbirnie at The Village, Malahide, Dublin on Sunday 26th June.

Notably, Hardik Pandya is leading India for the very first time in his career. He was named captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul from the team.
Hardik Pandya made his debut as a skipper in the 2022 Indian Premier League and he performed exceptionally well for his team, Gujarat Titans (GT). Also, he led debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to triumph in IPL 2022.
Following his Indian Premier League 2022 success, he was appointed Rishabh Pant’s assistant for the T20I five-game series against South Africa which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Hardik Pandya fires Paul Stirling in first T20I to become first Indian captain to pick a wicket in T20 internationals
Hardik Pandya came on to play the second half of the game against Ireland and he was able to pick out a huge wicket from star hitter Paul Stirling who could only make 4 runs on 5 balls.
Hardik threw a slightly longer delivery just outside Stirling and the Irish fly-half tried a shot up but the ball didn’t bounce as much as he expected and he could only slicing it off the bottom of the bat for Deepak Hooda, who ran halfway to grab the catch.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, today became the 9th captain of T20I to lead the Indian national cricket team. Before Hardik, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina and Rishabh Pant led India but none of the captains could pick a wicket at the T20 Internationals.
