▸ New Sheriff’s Captain: Staff announced that Capt. Rebecca Albin has been named the new deputy commander of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in Half Moon Bay and the Coastside Patrol Bureau. Former Sheriff Captain Andrew Armando has retired. Albin said she worked for the sheriff’s office for just over 10 years, but worked at the Millbrae Police Department for eight years before the sheriff’s office took over. She started her new role a few weeks ago.
▸ CARE program: The city officially modified its contract with the CARES program of El Centro de Libertad to allow the city to pay for additional services through the end of the fiscal year. In January, the city and El Centro launched an eight-month pilot project for the first time, staffed five days a week for $150,000, shared between the city and San Mateo County. At that time, he had no plans for future expansion. In September, the program changed to two shifts working seven days a week, 80 hours a week, from Montara to Moonridge. There is only one day of overlap, as each team is on call 10 hours a day, four days a week.
El Centro executive director Jeff Essex said the CARES team expanded to two teams and responded to 97 calls from mid-March through August.
▸ Leisure Committee: With the departure of Pat Black from the Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation Commission, the council unanimously nominated RJ Jennings to fill the vacant position.
