Good news if you can bring yourself to cover Cap’s topless summer cut.
Despite a much tougher first two years than Square Enix expected, the Marvel’s Avengers train continues to roll. This train may well include one of Captain America’s finest outfits added to the game so far – the Avenger’s Hydra suit that he first wore in Secret Empire.
The leak that Cap might be getting a new costume comes from Miller. Miller has been pretty specific with Avengers leaks in the past, so it seems likely that this skin will eventually be added to the game. It’s not yet clear when exactly that might be, but it will likely come with its own shield.
It’s not the norm for new outfits in Marvel’s Avengers, but it makes sense here. Steve Rogers’ red, white, and blue shield wouldn’t quite match his Hydra look. For those of you who haven’t read Secret Empire, yes, there is a corner of the Marvel Comics Universe where Rogers is revealed to have been a sleeper agent for Hydra all along.
This has led some people to hope that the ongoing story might be about to take a big turn. Despite the revelation that the game’s next update will introduce a villain-focused Warzone, as well as The Winter Soldier, that seems unlikely. The villainous entity in Avengers has always been AIM, and it seems unlikely that its story will quickly shift to Hydra with very little warning.
There is, however, a connection between the game’s Cape and his sleeper agent alter ego. A tweet posted more than a year before the game’s launch revealed that one of the hero’s unlockable outfits was inspired by the same Secret Empire storyline in which Rogers dons his Hydra armor. The only bad news is that if the outfit is coming soon, you’ll have to cover Cap’s abs.
