Adding another feather to his cap, India captain Rohit Sharma became the most capped T20I player on Sunday after taking part in his 125th game in the third and final game against Sri Lanka at the picturesque HPCA Stadium, here.

The 34-year-old overtook Pakistani veteran Shoaib Malik (124 T20I) for the historic feat.

Rohit is also the only Indian cricketer to have played more than 100 T20Is. Former captains Mahendra Singh Dhoni (retired, 98 games) and Virat Kohli (97) follow him in second and third position respectively among Indian players.

In the overall standings, Malik’s former teammate Mohammad Hafeez (119) sits third, with England captain Eoin Morgan (115) and Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah (113) following the Pakistani duo in fourth and fifth.

Rohit, who was named skipper of India’s T20I team in November, is yet to lose a match since taking over the full-time front man role. After taking a 2-0 unbeaten lead against Sri Lanka in the current T20 series, he is eyeing a third consecutive series, having shut out New Zealand and West Indies in a three-game home series.

The sleek hitter, who made his T20I debut at the 2007 T20 World Cup, scored 3,308 runs, in the game’s shortest format.
