City Design Studio (https://citydesign-studio.com) is an architecture, urban design and urban planning firm focused on revitalizing existing communities and creating unique, dynamic and extraordinary places. Based in downtown Los Angeles, our work spans the continental United States, South and East Asia and ranges from sensible architecture to urban design and small town planning. We are currently working on a large and complex civic/commercial project associated with a net zero sports arena in the greater Los Angeles area. Additionally, we are also involved in the proposed development of several transit-oriented mixed-use projects in the Greater Los Angeles area that will transform underserved communities. Our practice is actively engaged in design research in collaboration with institutions around the world. The selected architect/designer will take on a key role in these projects at some of the most challenging sites in Los Angeles.

job description

We are looking for a highly motivated Architect/Designer who is passionate about creating distinctive architectural buildings and communities. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in architecture with an interest in urban design. They should have strong project management skills and can work collaboratively with multiple teams of consultants in a fast-paced environment. They must have experience with complex multi-scale projects as well as a high level of skill in delivering projects. The candidate must have the ability to help schedule client requirements and manage project budgets and schedules. The position offers many growth opportunities for an organized candidate who can handle a variety of tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture and preferably a post-professional degree in architecture or urban design or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in architectural design projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in all phases of architectural design, construction documents and construction administration.
  • Knowledge of building and urban planning codes.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet budgets and timelines.
  • Excellent design, visualization and graphics skills with the ability to communicate design concepts graphically.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines if necessary.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Bluebeam, Adobe Suite, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required. Proficiency in rendering in Enscape, V-Ray is also preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management, including coordination with consultants and client program manager.
  • Preparation of design and construction development documents
  • Design control during the documentation phase and ability to resolve technical/design issues and develop details as needed
  • Coordination and verification of finishes and details of materials.
  • Communicates with other architects and engineers for the purpose of explaining and interpreting architectural standards, codes or regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of project specifications by compiling and analyzing relevant data.
  • Review shop drawings submitted by contractors to determine if program requirements and architectural standards have been met.
  • Proactively prepare, maintain and distribute an active log of all open action item submissions, RFIs, specifications and submissions.
  • Reviews of documents and bids during tenders and construction administration.
  • Conduct research on the materials and products necessary for the development of the project.
  • Contact suppliers and manufacturers to request and coordinate product details and requirements for use in contract documents.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews (by peers and self) and review all phases of submissions, providing red-marked drawings. Make corrections based on the QA/QC review received.
