IPL 2022: After KKR, PBKS & RCB to name a NEW captain – Heading into the IPL 2022 auction, only 3 teams were without a captain. With Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announcing today that Shreyas Iyer will captain their team, the other two teams Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) will soon announce their skippers Faf du Plessis and Shikhar Dhawan respectively. The IPL 2022 will be a 10 team affair with the new additions of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The other teams all retained their former captains and headed to the IPL 2022 mega auction to select their team.
While the Punjab Kings are ready to snub Mayank Agarwal for Shikhar Dhawan as captain of the IPL 2022 edition, RCB are ready to appoint Faf du Plessis. The former South African captain joined RCB in the mega auction for Rs 7 Cr.

With Glenn Maxwell set to miss the opening matches of IPL 2022, Faf is expected to be announced as the new RCB captain soon. An announcement on the captaincy of PBKS will also be made soon, as co-owner Ness Wadia confirmed during the auction.

Knights of Kolkata: The Kolkata Knight Riders faced a debacle over their captaincy choice last season. Dinesh Kartik, then skipper of the team, left his place and England striker Eoin Morgan took over the reins of the team for the rest of the season. Kartik and Morgan were not retained by KKR and thus the Kolkata outfits were left without a skipper. In the IPL 2022 auction, KKR bought Shreyas Iyer for a price of 12.25 crores and announced that he would be the captain of the team. While Kartik found a team, Morgan remained unsold in the auction.

Bangalore Royal Challengers: Royal Challengers Bangalore was left without a captain after Virat Kohli decided to step down from his post at the end of 2021. Although Kohli was retained for a salary cap of 15 crores, the team is yet to announce their next skipper. Faf du Plessis who joined them in the IPL 2022 auction for a price of 7 Crores is expected to be the skipper of the team.
Kings of Punjab: The Punjab Kings are also to reveal their captain for IPL 2022. As IPL 2022 approaches, it has been assured that the team will be built around Mayank Agarwal who has been retained for a price of 12 Crores. Shikhar Dhawan joined the team for a fee of 8.25 Crores, will be the next captain of the team.
Bombay Indians: The 5 times champions and the most successful team in IPL history will be led from the front by Rohit Sharma. Sharma is also the skipper of the Indian national team in the game’s limited format. The 34-year-old fly-half has been retained by Mumbai Indians on a salary cap of 16 crores.

Chennai Super Kings: The Chennai outfits, as usual, will be under the captaincy of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. The Chennai team have won the prestigious competition 4 times and are the current defending champions. Considered the last season of MS Dhoni at IPL, Dhoni took a pay cut from the previous year and was retained by CSK for a 12 crore salary cap.

Capitals of Delhi: Delhi outfits will be led by the fiery striker and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pants. In IPL 2021, Pant took over the role of captain after Shreyas Iyer was injured and missed half an entire season. Since Iyer was unsuccessful, Pant was selected as the Delhi team’s skipper. The pants were retained for a price of 16 Crores.
Rajasthani Royals: Former champions Rajasthan Royals will be led by their wicket-striker Sanju Samson. Samson has been part of the Rajasthan Royals for a long time and the team will be aiming to win the title under his captaincy. Sanju Samson was retained for a salary cap of 14 crores.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad changed captains in IPL 2021 when team duty was given to Kane Williamson instead of David Warner. Although SRH won his only title under Warner, the Aussie was left out and went under the hammer in the IPL 2022 auction. from 14 Crores.

Lucknow Super Giants: One of the IPL 2022 debutants picked up KL Rahul of the project for a whopping sum of 17 Crores. The new team will be under the management of KL Rahul who is said to be aiming to challenge for the title this season.
Gujarat Titans: Homeboy Hardik Pandya was bought by the other rookie team of IPL 2022 from the draft for a price of 15 Crores. It has also been decided that the ex-Mumbai Indians versatile player will lead the team in IPL 2022.
