New Delhi:

Bhagwant Mann, candidate Chief Minister of Punjab from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), ridiculed the captain and asked him that if he was getting calls and messages from Pakistan to make Navjot Singh Sidhu a minister, why did he kept secret for so many years? Was it at Pakistan’s request that the captain was offering the ministry to Sidhu again, Mann asked.

Speaking to the media in Chandigarh on Tuesday, Mann said Captain Amarinder Singh was making such statements to disrupt the atmosphere in Punjab during the elections as he had nothing left now. Mann, without naming anyone, remarked that “Pakistan” himself used to live with him in his house. Captain used to appoint Ministers, DGP and Chief Secretary of State only after asking Pakistan. The captain used the services of senior Punjab officers to tend the Sitaphal and the Chiku at his Siswan farm.

Reacting to Captain Amarinder Singh’s comment calling Bhagwant Mann a comedian, Mann said that comedian has always raised the issues of Punjab water, Punjab agriculture, farmers and mafia in Parliament. Whereas, when Captain was an MP, he didn’t even go to Parliament. His (captain’s) presence was the worst, not to mention his chances of raising any issue regarding Punjab and its people. Even as chief minister, he deceived the people of Punjab. Instead of keeping his promises, he quietly spent time on his farm. Today he is being punished for the treason he committed with the people of Punjab. Mann said that in the last Lok Sabha elections, the captain used to call him a strong candidate; today he calls him a comedian because Captain is agitated by the love and support Mann receives from the people of Punjab.

Mann strongly condemned the sacrilege incident at the famous Kali Mata temple in Patiala and said that if the culprits in the old sacrilege cases had been severely punished, such incidents would not have happened again and again. He called on the people to maintain peace and wished for harmony in Punjab. He said the Aam Aadmi Party government will maintain peace and brotherhood in Punjab by improving law and order and will severely punish the culprits after conducting a high-level investigation into all previous sacrilege cases. Mann recounted the lines of famous poet Rahat Indori on the relationship between tension and elections, saying such incidents happen because of elections. First there was an attempt at sacrilege at Sri Harmandir Sahib, then at Ludhiana there was a desecration of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and now an attempt at Kali Mata Mandir.

Some anti-social forces commit such incidents to disrupt the communal harmony of Punjab. Mann said that Navjot Singh Sidhu makes ugly statements and uses abusive language towards Aam Aadmi party and Arvind Kejriwal because he has no work or development issues to discuss. He advised Navjot Sidhu to keep an eye on his words. “To earn the respect of others, you must first show respect. If he is so keen to become chief minister, then he should have the investigation done on behalf of the Congress party, he will know the truth,” Mann added.
