David Nunn always knew he wanted to be in law enforcement.
And at 15, the Silsbee native made that dream a reality by starting work as a volunteer firefighter.
Nunn spent the last 25 years of his life working in Hardin County, from a dispatcher to a jailer to a police officer and finally a captain in the Kountze Police Department.
Wednesday was his last day with the Kounze Police Department, and he was honored for 25 years of selfless service, hard work and dedication.
To commemorate his tenure in Hardin County, Nunn received a plaque that reads “For your selfless service, hard work and dedication to Harden County and the Kountzee Police Department ‘We will miss you.’
Nunn moves to Katy with his family where his wife will start a job teaching for an area school district.

“We’re going to go out there and let her pursue her dream,” Nunn said. “‘I’ll try to go with a (police) agency there.’
Nunn said he will miss his coworkers and everyone he met day to day.
“Everyone worked well with me whenever I needed anything, they were always there to help me, so I will miss people,” Nunn said. “All of the citizens here have been amazing. I’ve had people come knocking on the door just to say thank you for everything we’ve done here.”
Kountze Police Department Chief Brent Slaughter said it was rare to have someone so good for so long who was so dedicated and morally and ethically correct.
“When he came here he was such an asset, he brought so much to the table,” Slaughter said. “We begged him not to leave but he can’t, you know, he has to follow his family and his career path.”
