Man Utd and Man City battling for £75m, Southampton captain Ward-Prowse

Manchester United are eyeing Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

The sun says it could spark a £75million summer showdown as Manchester City chief Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the Southampton skipper.

Erik ten Hag is facing a huge rebuilding job at Old Trafford and has already started to put together a list of results.

And he has the green light for Ward-Prowse, 27, with West Ham determined to keep Declan Rice for one more season.

Old Trafford sources believe he can play in the midfield role.

Ward-Prowse earns around £100,000 a week with Saints, meaning his salary – even with a big raise – is no deal breaker either.

His five-year deal runs until June 2026, and he’s not pushing to move, although it’s hard to resist the lure of joining one of football’s big guns.

Guardiola wants a midfielder to replace departing Fernandinho. The City boss called JWP one of the best dead-ball specialists in the world.

But he would not be guaranteed regular first-team action at the Etihad.
