Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has reportedly liked an Instagram post directed at team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo unhappy with the pay cut that was imposed on all United players after they failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Maguire was reportedly one of those not on good terms with Ronaldo as concern over the two and the club’s captaincy was raised in the press.
Ronaldo is said to be unhappy with the pay cut due to clubs’ lack of success last season, with the forward also expressing his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.
A post had appeared on social media platform Instagram on Wednesday, which Maguire’s official account seemed to like.
The message was addressed to Ronaldo unhappy with the pay cut while receiving a high income every week.
Fans quickly spotted similar things on the players’ account and began to take to social media to express their frustration with the situation, saying it paints Maguire in a bad light as club captain.
Simon Stone reported via the BBC Sport website, saying;
“Harry Maguire ‘liked’ an Instagram post ‘by mistake’ which repeated a newspaper report that one of the reasons Cristiano Ronaldo was unhappy at Manchester United was that he had to take a 25% pay cut due to the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.”
