MAYOR MOENCH RECOMMENDS CAPTAIN JOHN MITZAK TO BECOME 8TH BRIDGEWATER CHIEF OF POLICE
Bridgewater, NJ – In a statement today, Mayor Matthew C. Moench announces that he has recommended Capt. John Mitzak to Bridgewater Township Council as his selection for the next chief of the Bridgewater Police Department. Captain Mitzak has been acting chief since the retirement of former chief Paul Payne in late August.
“Captain Mitzak has been exceptional in his role as interim leader,” said Mayor Moench. “I have full confidence that John is ready to serve as leader, he has my full faith and support.”
Captain Mitzak has been a Bridgewater Police Officer since 1997 and grew steadily through the ranks of the department until his promotion to captain in 2020. During his time at the department, Captain Mitzak had a career busy holding leadership positions in Patrol, Investigations, Traffic Safety, Emergency Management, Internal Affairs and Operations. He was awarded the Bridgewater Police Department’s Exceptional Service Medal and several Lifesaving Medals.
“John Mitzak is a man of great character and will be a great addition to the legacy of Bridgewater Chief Constables,” continued Moench. “I am confident that the Council sees the same characteristics as me in the interim leader and will vote to confirm him as leader at the next Council meeting on October 17.”
