MINERAL POINT (WKOW) — The city held a final tribute to captain Brian Busch on Friday.
He was one of two firefighters killed last week while responding to an emergency call when a tractor-trailer driver struck him and fellow firefighter Jim Ludlum.
A member of the honor guard who spoke at Busch’s funeral said, “To Captain Brian Busch, who selflessly gave his life for the good of his fellow man, his task accomplished, his duties well done. . To our comrade Brian Busch, his last alarm is to come home.”
Residents of Mineral Point watched as fire trucks and other emergency vehicles led a solemn and silent procession for Busch as the community mourned.
Father Flannagan spoke at Busch’s funeral and said: “There is a connection between the people who live at Mineral Point. There is a huge void in our hearts because Brian, who we all know and love , is no longer with us.”
Busch’s obituary states that shortly after high school he joined the Mineral Point Fire Department, rising to the rank of captain, and his fellow firefighters are feeling his absence.
Retired firefighter and current Iowa County Emergency Management Director Keith Hurlbert said: “There’s a connection there that as a firefighter you will always feel, and I as a retired fire chief, I feel it a little more. So it’s been an emotional week.”
Brian loved his family, his fellow firefighters and his city very much.
Fitchburg Fire Chief Joe Pulvermacher said: “Busch was a very respected man in his department and in his community, a father and a husband. When something needed to be done in the department, he was there to do it. .”
Now Brian’s brothers give their final salute as they carry him to his final resting place.
Busch will forever rest next to his friend and firefighter partner Jim Ludlum at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mineral Point.
