Marvel Comics Just Released A New Version Of An Old Captain America, Whose Costume And Appearance Should Have Looked Like The MCU’s Version
Spoilers for Namor: Conquered Shores #1 by Marvel ComicsMarvel Comics has just presented a new version of Captain America, aged after the Marvel Universe sank underwater. However, Steve Rogers’ new suit and appearance show just how cool the old Cap from the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have been – as the new design retains Cap’s trademark muscles but ages him without making him completely frail.
Captain America’s age has long been a point of interest in the Marvel Universe, as the hero frozen in ice for nearly 70 years changed his age. In the 1920s, Steve Rogers was supposed to be in his mid-twenties – but when he was frozen, he ended up staying at that age for quite a long time before his natural aging cycle continued. Thanks to the Super Soldier Serum, Captain America’s aging cycle is already unnatural. But, in a new comic, the 100-plus-year-old Captain America shows how the hero should have been as cool as old Steve Rogers in the MCU.
In Namor: conquered shores #1 by Christopher Cantwell, Pasqual Ferry, Matt Hollingsworth, and Joe Caramagna of Marvel Comics, Namor rules Earth 100 years in the future, as rising sea levels and a war with the Kree have overwhelmed most of the Earth underwater. While most of the heroes are gone, Captain America is still alive, as he protects the oxygenated settlement area called “Dry Man’s Land”. When Captain America debuts, readers see an older version of the hero in a proper costume, who is still muscular but has grown much older. The set shows what the MCU version of Old Steve Rogers could have looked like.
Captain America is old, but not frail like his MCU counterpart
When Captain America returns from his time travel in the MCU Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers, over a hundred years old, is frail and no longer looks like the hulking man he once was – despite the super soldier serum delaying his aging. However, the new comic version of Captain America (in his excellent costume) from hundreds of years in the future retains his superhuman appearance, which makes him much more intimidating. Now, it’s unclear how old the future Captain America is supposed to be, but it’s clear that the serum that gave him his powers is still very effective.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with Steve Rogers looking like a much weaker old man like he was in the MCU. Avengers: Endgame. However, it would have been cool to see Captain America maintain his physique despite his age, like he does in the new Marvel Comics story. With an elegant costume, a haircut and a role of protecting human beings displaced in a world ruled by Namor, the old Captain America has never been so beautiful.
