Captain America: New World Order star Anthony Mackie said he hopes to have a scene in the MCU that rivals Captain America: The Winter Soldierof the elevator fight, while sharing an update on the film.
Following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is the new Captain America of the MCU. We have already seen him embark on a mission, but it will be Captain America: New World Order which sees the former Falcon finally take center stage.
Anthony Mackie made his MCU debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and during a recent red carpet interview with E! News, he revealed there was a specific scene in the 2014 blockbuster that he hopes to top as the new Cap.
confirming that “[we’re] in pre-production, we are putting everything in place to start filming next year”, Macky added, “I want a fight scene that rivals the Chris Evans fight scene in the elevator [in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Solider] when he fought like 10 guys in the elevator. It was a badass scene.”
“The first time I saw this, I was like, ‘This is crazy'” He continued. “So I just want a fight scene that rivals that.”
During that conversation, Mackie was also asked if we’ve seen the last of Evans as Steve Rogers in the MCU. It’s still unclear what happened to the former Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgameand the actor doubled down on his past claims that Evans was done with the role.
“Chris is so far from Marvel” Mackie joked. “Like, Marvel isn’t even in his radius. He’s so far away. He’s enjoying life. He’s like an old retiree.”
Despite this, the Captain America: New World Order The star remains good friends with Evans and Bucky actor Sebastian Stan. “It’s not often you meet people you work with who you genuinely miss and consider friends. Luckily, between the three of us, we’re actually friends. We go to each other’s houses and spend birthdays together.”
It’s cool to hear they’ve remained friends, but too bad all the signs point to Evans not returning as Captain America. The character’s fate will have to be addressed at some point, unless we’re supposed to believe Steve just died off-camera, but that doesn’t seem to be a priority for Marvel Studios right now.
Captain America: New World Order hits theaters May 3, 2024.
