Ornstein: Nottingham Forest interested in loan for Sergio Reguilon

Here is an interesting one. David ‘The Ornacle’ Ornstein is reporting in The Athletic (£) this morning that there is finally some interest in Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon, and it’s from the Premier League – Nottingham Forest are apparently interested in take Reggie to the East Midlands on loan for the season.

It’s an interesting idea. Reggie is clearly no longer wanted by Antonio Conte, who has selected Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon as left-back options this season. Forest have been by far the most active club in the transfer window – having been promoted from the Championship last season, they made sixteen new signings this offseason and clearly haven’t finished. They’re literally a whole new team, and that could be one of the reasons they surprised the Premier League, beating West Ham and drawing Everton in their first three games.

Reggie would make sense for Forest partly because one of their new signings, left-back Omar Richards, has just been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his leg and will be out for a long time. Heading to Forest on loan means Reggie has the chance to impress his way into a permanent move down the road; he would earn £48,000/week, which is quite reasonable. In contrast, Forest would have paid Jesse Lingard £200,000/week and Dean Henderson £100,000/week. If they collect Sergio’s full salary, he will become their third highest-paid player.

Who knows if that happens, but the thought that it might be encouraging. Reguilon is a good player, Tottenham are motivated to offload him, and Forest looks like it could be a pretty decent landing spot for him, especially if most of the rumors linking him with a return to Spain have died down. Let’s see where this leads.
