fans of The Waterboy will have the chance to see Captain Insano live. Back in the comedy directed by Frank Coraci, released in 1998, Paul Wight appeared as Captain Insano, a professional wrestler and the personal hero of Adam Sandler’s Bobby Boucher. At one point in the film, Bobby calls during a live TV show and offers his services as a waterboy to the professional wrestler. Bobby’s eye gouges out a football player in another scene honoring his favorite wrestler, as he utters the line “Captain Insano shows no mercy.”

Wight only appeared briefly in The Waterboy and the character has not been seen performing in the ring. However, fans will have the opportunity to see the wrestler in action on All Elite Wrestling television. Wight, who previously spent many years as Big Show in WWE, worked to secure the rights to use the Captain Insano character in AEW. He recently confirmed Wresting Inc. that he has now secured those rights and will star as Captain Insano for what he considers his last hurray in professional wrestling.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Hell [Captain Insano] Come back. The guy who wrote The Waterboy approved. Tony Khan and I got the rights to Captain Insano. There is already an outfit made, the whole nine yards. We’re doing a lot of prep work, and this will be my last hurray so to speak.

That said, Wight doesn’t expect this character to be featured in the main event of World Championship matches. He just feels it will be fun for fans to see him play the character he played as. The water boy.

“Let’s be honest – I don’t think this character is going to be a killer trying to beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. At this point, I think this character is just for fun. We’ll see how it goes, but for me right now it’s just a chance to have fun with this character and be a bright spot in the show. We’ll see how I feel and we’ll see how everyone does.
