The Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured powerful heroes and villains who have shown various feats of strength. While Spider-Man, Hulk and Thor remain some of the best examples of brute force, Steve Rogers has his own feats that made him strong, but with Sam Raimi’s Green Goblin having crossed the universe in Spider-Man: No Coming Homeit’s hard not to wonder how he’d compare to another super soldier like Rogers, so without weapons or assistance, why would the Green Goblin still be the stronger of the two?
Green Goblin could defeat the strongest Spider-Man
To understand the Goblin’s power associated with Cap’s, it’s imperative to recall the Goblin’s fights with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. Maguire’s Peter showed off the most raw strength of the three live-action Spider-Men, though Tom Holland’s continues to grow. However, the goblin could easily outrun and overpower the web-head. During their final battle in Spider Man, Norman tore Peter’s webs even though they have the tensile strength of steel. He also held a ferry full of kids with one arm, while Spidey struggled to hold the ferry with gravity on his side.
Captain America has greater strategic skills and superior reaction time
One of Rogers’ greatest skills is how in tune his mind and body were. Because of this, he’s one of the best strategists in the MCU, but in a battle he also has incredibly quick reaction times which have helped him dodge projectiles on multiple occasions.
Those same strategy and reaction times allow him to fight off an elevator full of soldiers and successfully escape the Triskelion by Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He also holds Thanos down with nothing but sheer force of will. Overall, Steve shows that his mind is as strong as his body, which would be necessary to evade the Goblin’s strikes.
Green Goblin is rarely tired
Once in full goblin form, Norman Osborn is like a powerhouse that never tires. No matter which Spider-Man he fought, he always punches twice as hard as the moment before and never shows signs of fatigue. For example, in the first Spider Manhe has his final confrontation with Peter, where he begs Peter to stop after hitting him with repeated punches to the head, but he doesn’t ask him to stop because he’s tired.
Instead, he does it to try to outsmart the hero. Similar mental games are featured in Spider-Man: No Coming Home, where Norman betrays Peter, and the two fight in Happy’s apartment. Even though Peter punches him in the head without a helmet, Norman only smiles and laughs before sending Peter flying four floors.
Captain America has a known limit
Norman’s last stand in No coming home could have been his sacrifice to make Peter a killer, hence why he shows signs of fatigue, but even though his only sign of weakness is shown, it is unconfirmed. Conversely, Rogers has a known limit. Although he can get up as fast as he is knocked down, he has shown that hard hits are enough to leave him breathless.
For example, when fighting Thanos, he takes a punch to the head which knocks him out for a few minutes. He is also out of breath after a one-on-one fight with Tony Stark that lasts for some time. Ultimately, while Rogers is strong, a blow or a prolonged fight could spell disaster for him.
Green Goblin’s serum beats Captain America’s
Ultimately, Green Goblin has stamina and durability that allowed him to hit harder and fight longer than most heroes or villains. However, since he has no fighting style, he is also unpredictable and his power makes it difficult to trap or subdue him.
Unfortunately, Cap often struggles to overpower tough enemies like The Winter Soldier. In the end, the goblin could easily overpower the hero and hit him with blows that could last longer than most, as he has never been shown to tire after a long fight. While it’s likely he could be beaten into submission, it’s a war of attrition that Cap simply can’t overcome.
