In 2019, Azpilicueta received the armband from Chelsea legend Frank Lampard following the departure of Gary Cahill, having served as vice-captain and worn the armband for their 2018/19 Europa League success.
It has been suggested that Spanish giants Barcelona could secure the 32-year-old’s signature.
According Matt LawThe Daily Telegraph’s football correspondent Barcelona are ‘reluctant’ to pay a transfer fee as the defender has one year left on his current contract.
Sources say Azpilicueta were preparing to say goodbye to Chelsea but the change of owners and the losses of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have ‘complicated things’.
Tuchel has made it very clear that he doesn’t want the Blues skipper to leave this summer.
“Given that we are already losing key defenders, it’s not the ideal scenario to think about losing Azpi, although I can understand his personal view.”
“I strongly hope [that he stays] and he knows it, but we are still in discussions to find the ideal solution.
