It looks like no matter what, Tottenham Hotspur just can’t stop talking about Franck Kessie. We last wrote about him in February – at that time it seemed likely the AC Milan midfielder was likely heading to Barcelona on a free transfer, but there was a false rumor (lol) that Barca’s financial difficulties could scuttle this. particular agreement, reopening the door that leads to Spurs.
Now maybe we can finally stop talking about him. According to Fabrizio Romano, it’s a back and forth. Kessie has agreed a deal to sign Barca on a free transfer when his Milan contact expires in June.
Here we are. After a verbal agreement reached a few days ago, Franck Kessié has signed as Barcelona’s new player until June 2026 – it will be a four-year contract, he joins AC Milan as a free agent. #FCB

Kessie would have been a solid addition to Tottenham’s midfield next year, and it’s clear Antonio Conte wanted and admired him, but I’ve also pretty much given up on him now, especially after Rodrigo was signed. Bentancur in January. In the end, it comes down to this – Milan were ready to strike a cut-rate deal to get something (anything) for him before his contract expired, but Kessie made the wise choice to keep its options open and upgrade to a free one. It’s his right, and ultimately it’s the right decision because it took him to one of the biggest clubs in world football. Hard to be too upset about that. Unfortunately, his take-home pay is only around £105,000/week, which seems quite reasonable. But whatever.
Spurs will certainly strengthen their midfield options this summer, but they should have plenty of focus. I trust Fabio Paratici to identify and prosecute them. Most of them, like Kessie, won’t happen. And that’s okay, because I’m pretty confident that whoever comes is going to be a solid addition.
