Former South African pacemaker Morne Morkel believes Rajasthan Royals star flyhalf Jos Buttler is one of those hitters who can upset the opposing captain’s plans and strategies with his destructive stick.
While talking about the England striker’s century of wins against the Mumbai Indians in his previous match at IPL 2022, Morkel said on ‘Cricket Live’ on Star Sports: “Jos the Boss… Sometimes the unit Bowler must say it’s his day and enjoy the show. But you must find a way (to fire a batsman like him) early. In his century of batting against Mumbai, he played exceptionally well.
“He played all the shots and all around the ground. He took his time at first to get used to the rhythm and to bounce back, but after that he hit the ground and the wicket square. You just can’t not stop it,” he said. added.
Asked what lines the bowling unit should target against a player like Buttler, Morkel said: “It’s just the quality of a player. That’s why teams pay a lot of money for players like Buttler are putting pressure on the bowling offense. He’s a guy that if you don’t get him early, he’ll completely take the game away and destroy all of the opposing captain’s plans.” A midweek blockbuster awaits as Royal Challengers Bangalore take on an in-form Rajasthan in their third bout of the season on Tuesday.
In what may very well be a dynamic war of willow and leather, two well-oiled bowling units will go head-to-head and there will be much more at stake than just two points.
