Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will ‘make sure’ Wrexham legend Gareth Davies goes to Wembley despite battling dementia.
Davies made 490 appearances during a 16-year career spent exclusively at his boyhood city Wrexham between 1967 and 1983. As a centre-back, Davies captained Wrexham, and he even won three caps with the Welsh national team in 1978, as well as a few at under-23 level.
A hashtag to make Davies the guest of honor at Wrexham’s clash with Bromley in the FA Trophy final. Reynolds tweeted: “Rob and I will make sure Gareth gets to Wembley comfortably. He showed up for @Wrexham_AFC and we will show up for him.”
The idea of having Davies, currently at a care home in Wrexham, as guest of honor came from Martin Evans, whose wife was caring for Davies.
“The amount of love and support this man is getting from fans young and old is phenomenal,” he told The Leader.
“When my wife gave me this idea I wasn’t 100% sure how it would turn out. I won’t stop, I’m determined to do it and the support I’ve had is fantastic too , from my friends and family, to fans around the world and even to number 35 Ollie Palmer himself.”

Wrexham booked their ticket to Wembley thanks to a delicious dink from Paul Mullin in the 91st minute.
Reynolds, who was at the Racecourse Ground, described it as one of “the ten best moments in life”.
