There were a slew of announcements coming out of this year’s Hall H at Comic-Con, with one of the biggest confirming 100% that Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, is indeed Captain America going forward. Director Julius Onah is set to helm the MCU adventure with Wilson wielding the shield. Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who approached Wilson in The Falcon and Winter Soldier, will co-write the film.
The new Captain America movie will be at the end of the recently revealed Phase 5, heading to theaters just before Thunderbolts wraps up the new wave with a tentative date of May 3, 2024.
Exact plot details are still up in the air, but the story could be almost anything. There was a bit of conversation online with former Cap actor Chris Evans clarifying that Wilson will don the Cap uniform after it looked like Steve Rogers might return. In The Falcon and Winter Soldier series, it was obvious that Sam was officially made Captain America while John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, didn’t really work out.
Captain America: New World Order is just one of the recent announcements at the forefront of the MCU’s upcoming Phase 5.
