See She-Hulk reveal a very private detail about Captain America

A clip was released last week from the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk: Lawyer this could potentially reveal something interesting about the First Avenger. Have you ever wondered if Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is a virgin or not? Because it’s clear that Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters did, and she seems to believe the only answer might be a resounding “yes.”

In the She-Hulk clip, Jen drives with her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) in the passenger seat, as she relates her Captain America theory. His only source being History Channel, Walters explains that Steve Rogers never had a girlfriend before he was turned into a super soldier, didn’t have one during his service, and then was frozen in ice for over 70 year. She goes on to point out that Captain America was “very busy” once Thawed, saving the world and sometimes hiding from the law. This, she concludes, means “Captain America was obviously a virgin,” just before a spaceship appeared, knocking her off course. You can watch the clip below.

No doubt for many fans, the theory proposed by Jen Walters on She-Hulk will become their personal chef-canon. And that’s not a particularly hard theory to swallow. At the very least, it seems likely that Steve Rogers was a virgin until he arrived in the 21st century. Since she talks about the big end-of-the-world scenarios that Cap has continued to grapple with – and since it seems more than likely the general public won’t know he’s going back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame – Walters apparently thinks Cap died a virgin, which… well, we know that’s not true. Unless Cap and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) spent some very odd decades together before the latter passed away, Walter is at least half wrong on that point.

But honestly, even if we forget that the star of She-Hulk doesn’t have all the information at its disposal, it seems to operate on a premise with huge flaws. She assumes that Steve Rogers never had sex before entering the service because, assuming the History Channel is correct, he didn’t have a girlfriend before. She assumes he didn’t have sex after being rescued from the ocean in the 21st century because he was too busy; probably too busy to have a committed relationship. Both of these things are based on a pretty ridiculous notion – that you have to be in a committed relationship to have sex. Although we assume Rogers was a virgin on the serve, thanks to a scene with Nathalie Dormer of game of thrones fame, we know that he was very popular with women during the war. And even before he started fighting in the war, when the government used him to sell war bonds, he was touring the country with a large group of young dancers.

In the 21st century? Well, we can only assume She-Hulk is right about Cap’s virginity if we also assume Steve is a liar. In 2014 Captain America: The Winter SoldierBlack Widow (Scarlett Johansson) kisses her in a mall to hide Brock Rumlow (Franck Grillo). Afterwards, she asks him if it was his first kiss since 1945. He says it wasn’t, adding, “I’m 95. I’m not dead.” Not to mention that there are five long years between the execution of Thanos by Thor in End of Game and the rest of the movie. Rogers had to do something with those five years out of group therapy.
