Services planned for Stockton fire captain shot dead on duty

Memorial services for Stockton Fire Capt. Max Fortuna will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Services will only include family and friends of Fortuna, Stockton Fire Department personnel and their families, serving and retired members of fire departments and law enforcement agencies statewide, as well as guests.

Services are closed to the public, but members of the community are encouraged to pay their respects by watching the services online or standing by the roadside to watch the procession.

Services will be broadcast live on the Stockton Fire Department Facebook page.

Details of the motorcade route are expected to be released later this week.

Fortuna was shot and killed while fighting a fire at a trash can in downtown Stockton on Monday.

The man accused of shooting him, Robert Alston Somerville, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in San Joaquin County Superior Court.
