Captain Shikhar Dhawan PBKS? Note that the Punjab team had retained Mayank Agarwal before the auction. It was speculated that Mayank would lead PBKS, but after the auction, it is clear that the responsibility of leading PBKS will fall to Dhawan.
After the auction closed on Sunday, the PBKS head coach was asked about the appointment of a new captain.
Kumble, however, did not reveal the name but did praise Dhawan.
“Oh, this is a great edition for the team. His maturity will rub shoulders with other team members. Everyone around him can learn from him. He will be the perfect leader for the team in every way” , Kumble said making it clear that Dhawan should be named team captain.
PBKS owner Ness Wadia was also asked the same question on who will lead the Punjab Kings?
“I can’t give the name now. But we have our captain. We will make the announcement very soon.” Wadia said visibly very happy.

Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble is hugely pleased with the new players including Liam Livingstone and Odean Smith who came to his franchise at the IPL auction, the momentum of which was “very different and stimulating”.

“There is absolutely more demand than supply, but I guess there were challenges because there were 10 teams and it was different,” said Kumble.
“I’ve been to a few mega-auctions in 2011, 2014 and smaller auctions before this auction. This one was really, really different and more challenging because every player, regardless of whoever is looking for it, is aiming for a large sum of money, so the purse goes down, whatever value you have in your purse.
“The dynamics of the auction are very, very different and you have to be nimble and that’s something we’ve achieved over the last day and a half. You have to be even more nimble in this auction than in previous ones.
