Singapore – A Singaporean mother with a distressed child on a bus was also on the verge of tears until the bus captain approached and handed sweets to her children.

Facebook page ROUTES.sg highlighted the commendable behavior of the bus captain in a message published on Friday, January 28.

The mother, Ms Aleesa Saaib, said she collected her two boys from school around 5pm as usual and boarded the 98 bus service to return home.

“At this time my son showed distress and needed to feed on breast milk,” Ms Aleesa said.

Her son cried throughout the journey and repeatedly broke free from her arms, throwing her body towards the chair.

The mother admitted her helplessness and tried to carry her son to the window to show him the moving vehicles.

The passing trucks kept the boy quiet for a while, but he was soon crying again when the bus moved or there were other vehicles to distract him.

“I almost cried too because I couldn’t help him and didn’t know how to calm him down,” she wrote.

When the bus stopped at a crossroads, the bus captain got out of his driver’s seat and walked towards them.

Ms Aleesa initially thought the bus captain would scold her for not being able to silence her son.

“But I was wrong. He walked up to me with two pieces of chocolate,” which he handed to his two sons.

“I was too stunned to speak and almost cried again because there is still (a) good soul around me.”

She noted that her son immediately stopped crying. Ms Aleesa thanked the bus captain by raising her hand in appreciation for his direction, which he accepted through the rear view mirror.

“This bus driver of Bus Service 98, with SBS plate number 3414X deserves a shout out and a commendable service award for his kindness and thoughts for his passengers,” she wrote.

Ms Aleesa said she had sent comments to the Land Transport Authority and Tower Transit, hoping the bus captain would be praised or rewarded for his good work.

In a comment on his separation Facebook post, Tower Transit Singapore thanked Ms Aleesa for her “thoughtful and heartwarming article”.

“We’d love to share your post on our own page if you’d be happy to let us!” added the transport operator./TISG
