Well, it sure didn’t take long. The boos have barely stopped ringing around the cavernous Tottenham Hotspur stadium and we already have some credible rumors linking Tanguy Ndombele outside the club.
This particular rumor involves two Italian clubs, but a French journalist. Julien Meynard of Telefoot Mercato had a transfer rumor on Twitter where he discussed Ndombele’s future (or his absence) at Spurs, and where he could end up by the end of this month.

French? I mean of course I don’t speak French, all of you. An effective summary of Meynard’s comments on Tanguy is courtesy of Get French Football News: Tanguy is now very likely to be loaned out this month, assuming Tottenham can’t find someone to buy him directly. Two Serie A clubs are specifically linked – Napoli are seen as the favorites, although Rome is another potential option, with Jose Mourinho apparently even calling Ndombele directly to discuss his possible visit to Rome.
Reunited and it smells so good …
Let’s leave aside, just a second, the incredible irony of Jose Mourinho (everyone’s) who turns out to be Ndombele’s ticket to Tottenham. Napoli wouldn’t be a bad place to land at all, if Spurs could get them to pay all (or even most) of his salary. As I understand it, Julien Meynard is a top source for French footballers, and I’ve heard him described as the David Ornstein of Ligue 1. So I’m inclined to believe that there is something here.
After the great shrimp debacle of 2022, even Tanguy’s staunchest defender (like myself) has to admit that the chances of him ever finding his way back to Spurs first team seem pretty remote at best. If I had to guess (and that’s why this blog is paying me) I’d say Spurs now feel motivated enough to bring him back to Italy or any club willing to pay his salary, even if not only temporary. It would be crazy to think this is going to be resolved anytime in the near future, but I expect this not to be the last time we hear about clubs linked to a talented but mercurial mad Frenchman midfielder. creative trapped in North London.
