The post-Endgame world needs the Avengers more than Captain America

Phase 4 highlighted how much Captain America is lacking in the MCU, but the universe needs the Avengers as a whole more than him.

MCU Phase 4 stressed the importance Captain America is but, more than the Star Man with a Plan, the MCU needs the Avengers team given contemporary circumstances. Marvel Studios is moving from the Infinity Saga to Phase 4 of the MCU with Disney + shows focused on character teams. At this point, it’s unclear when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will come together in the franchise, but the state of the world after Thanos’ defeat calls for them to reunite as soon as possible.

As the MCU goes through this transitional phase, it makes sense that Marvel Studios will prioritize standalone stories rather than immediately switching to another event offering. To start, Avengers: Endgame was recent, and other ensemble projects will suffer from what the Russo Brothers delivered. Second, the franchise must rebuild itself after the demise of several founding heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow. That said, given what has been revealed so far about the post-Infinity Saga world, the MCU could really use its biggest hero roster to help restore world order.

Steve Rogers and his Captain America legacy were at the heart of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and even approached with Spider-Man: No Path HomeStatue of Liberty with the shield of Cap. Falcon and Winter Soldier showed that the world had been messed up with the sudden reappearance of half of Earth’s population. While there isn’t a threat as dangerous as Thanos looming right now (other than whatever happens with Kang), the situation is volatile and far from their primary focus when they’ve continued the robbery in. the weather. End of Game (to bring the world back to normal). However, given how precarious things are, Captain America alone isn’t enough to do the trick. Instead, it’s the original Avengers team that must return. Steve’s absence may not be so felt if the rest of the team is still visible and operational. While only half of them are out of the franchise, they are technically inactive as a team. Thor is out of the world dealing with his own arc; Hawkeye has become a thug and may want to retire after helping Kate Bishop; and Smart Hulk is semi-retired.

The founding members of The Avengers are seen as a beacon of hope; these are the heroes who have repeatedly saved the world together and separately since fighting Loki’s Chitauri invasion in The Avengers. It would do wonders for people’s morale to see them united as a team. It would also be harder for the villains to take advantage of global politics in the MCU knowing that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are still active. But, more than that, they are also needed to properly aid in the training of the next generation of Avengers. As seen in both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, most of their contemporaries are scattered, dealing with their own problems and in no way assuming heroic responsibilities. With the original advice from the Avengers, it would be a much easier transition. Plus, it might also help audiences get used to this new group of heroes.

Seeing the original Avengers intact at this point in MCU history would be better for the franchise as a whole. Unfortunately, that’s not how it’s going to be. On the contrary, their status as a deity – even those who are not actually gods – makes it more difficult for new heroes. To take their high positions, they must face the legacy of those before them, as illustrated with Sam replacing Rogers as Captain America. That said, this next Avengers lineup may be better as it will hopefully have learned from the mistakes made by their predecessors.
