Times: Tottenham offer Ryan Sessegnon a new deal

Ryan Sessegnon finally has his chance to shine at Tottenham Hotspur and has performed quite well overall. Now, it looks like the club are rewarding him for his – and his – patience. According to Gary Jacob writing for The Times of London, Tottenham have offered Sessegnon a new and improved contract in recognition of his recent play.

The Times say Sessegnon is still on his original contract which he signed when Spurs bought him from Fulham in 2019, one which runs until 2024 and earns him £55,000/week wages. This new contract would be “improved”.

Sessegnon has started as a left-winger in each of the last five Premier League games, initially replacing Sergio Reguilon when the Spaniard reported a positive COVID-19 test. However, in the last three matches, Sess has been the preferred option on the left side with Reguilon on the bench.

Sessegnon’s game has not always been particularly good. His performances have more or less mirrored Tottenham’s overall game, with him looking good when Spurs look good overall and vice versa. Notably, he was substituted after 27 minutes in Spurs’ 2-0 home loss to Wolves on February 13, and put on some absolute stinkers. That said, he was pretty solid in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Leeds, providing an assist to right wing partner Matt Doherty for Spurs’ opening goal in the fourth minute and looking capable on both sides of the ball against an admittedly poor one. and a struggling Leeds side who fired their manager soon after.

Ryan was a player who always needed patience, which large segments of Tottenham fans lack these days. He’s been unlucky with injuries and the expectations placed on him were probably too high, especially after his impressive performances as a teenager for Fulham in the Premier League a few years ago. However, he is only 21 and far from the ceiling of his potential; under Conte, he is finally starting to come out of his shell. Even though he’s only deep in the Premier League at this stage, he’s a viable option at left-back, and if he continues to work hard and improve, he could become something special. . A new contract and continued playing opportunities are the best way for the club to let Sessegnon know that the club still want him.
