The long-running lawsuit between the United States Women’s National Team and the USSF has ended in a historic settlement. Thus, the question of equal pay between men’s and women’s American football is finally up in the air.

The USSF agreed to pay the women’s team $22 million, plus an additional $2 million to help with post-career goals. However, Becky Sauerbrunn wants the world to know that this triumph is not just for female football players.

“This work has lasted for decades and generations”, Becky wrote on Twitter. “Not just in women’s football, but in all women’s sports”, she continued.

Then Saurerbrunn credited the 1999 women’s World Cup squad, heralded in history, with changing the sport forever. Moreover, she also said that this victory would have been impossible without players like Billie Jean King, Venus and Serena Williams.

Jean King founded the Women’s Tennis Association, while Venus and Serena Williams played crucial roles in popularizing the sport for women around the world. Sauerbrunn also praised the WNBA Players’ Union, which has always been committed to defending the rights of NBA players.
