The world saw history made this month when the USWNT won its fight for equal pay with the United States Soccer Federation. Becky Sauerbrunn, the current national team captain, has credited great women like Billie Jean King and Serena Williams for leading the way.

The long-running class action lawsuit between the United States Women’s National Team and the USSD is finally over. Additionally, it also solved the long-standing issue of World Cup bonuses for the women’s team.

The long-running lawsuit between the United States Women’s National Team and the USSF has ended in a historic settlement. Thus, the question of equal pay between men’s and women’s American football is finally up in the air.

The USSF agreed to pay the women’s team $22 million, plus an additional $2 million to help with post-career goals. However, Becky Sauerbrunn wants the world to know that this triumph is not just for female football players.

“This work has lasted for decades and generations”, Becky wrote on Twitter. “Not just in women’s football, but in all women’s sports”, she continued.

Then Saurerbrunn credited the 1999 women’s World Cup squad, heralded in history, with changing the sport forever. Moreover, she also said that this victory would have been impossible without players like Billie Jean King, Venus and Serena Williams.
