His Majesty the Government of Gibraltar has confirmed the appointment of Mr. John Ghio as the new CEO/Harbourmaster, following the retirement of Mr. Manuel Tirado.
Mr. Ghio started working in the bunkering industry in 1998 when he joined Aegean Bunkering (Gibraltar) Ltd (now Minerva Bunkering) when they first set up in Gibraltar. He then joined the Gibraltar Ports Authority in 2011 as Bunkering Superintendent. He was promoted to Senior Port Officer in 2015 and to Naval Officer in January 2017.
Port Minister, MP Hon Vijay Daryanani said, “I would like to thank Manolo Tirado for his excellent service to the Port since 1983 and as Captain for the past three years. Since I was appointed Port Minister 16 months ago, he has given me sound advice and I am grateful to him. I wish him a pleasant and well-deserved retirement.
“At the same time, I welcome John’s appointment as Port Captain. I enjoyed working with him and now look forward to working with him even more closely as we enter a new Brexit and post COVID-19 era. It is in line with my ambitious vision for the Port. His experience in the private sector will help us as we work to market our services globally and seek to bring new business to Gibraltar. I wish John good luck in his new position.”
