West Brom are said to be in pole position to secure the services of Derby County striker Tom Lawrence this summer.

According to Daily Mail, the Rams failed to convince to keep their captain at the club after manager Wayne Rooney announced his departure on Friday June 24.

Sheffield United, Watford and Rangers are also said to be keen on signing him, but the Baggies are currently favorites to land his services.

Worth signing?

The Baggies are in desperate need of a striker after Andy Carroll decided to leave the club and they identified Lawrence as an option.

The 28-year-old has decent experience of playing in the Championship and has the know-how to find the back of the net at the second tier.

With the signings the Baggies are making, he knows they are in the running for promotion and if a top club don’t come for him it could be his best chance of making the Premier League.

He is their captain and will therefore come to the Hawthorns with significant leadership skills and Steve Bruce would certainly like to have his personality at the club.

However, they will need to act quickly as the other eager clubs will not go down without a fight.

Free agents are often the quickest to join new clubs as there are representatives constantly in contact with them to discuss terms.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are set to take on Manchester United to sign a Premier League goalkeeper this summer.
